Carmeuse Dundas equips children to go back to school
Every year, the Flamborough Food Bank in Carlisle, Ontario, runs a back-to-school program aiming to provide essential school supplies to children who rely on the foodbank for support. Amid uncertain economic times it’s a service that’s seeing ever increasing demand.
Last year, a record 155 children were helped by the program. However, this has already paled in comparison to demand this year with almost 250 children registering for assistance by the beginning of August. The majority are in grades 4 to 9.
Standing behind the foodbank in its efforts to equip these children to return to school, the Carmeuse Dundas Operation donated $1000 worth of backpacks and reusable beverage bottles to this year’s program.
“Every child deserves to have the supplies they need to succeed at school,” said Sylvia Alvarez, Human Resources at Carmeuse Dundas. “As a committed supporter of the Flamborough Food Bank, we are pleased to donate to their back-to-school program at this time of increased need and ensure local children can return to the classroom with confidence.”
