The Carmeuse River Rouge operation sponsored the 11th Annual Friends of the Rouge Cruise which explored southeast Michigan’s Rouge River. The cruise travelled downstream from Stroh River Place to the turning basin at the Ford Rouge Complex where it began its journey back upstream. Friends of the Rouge is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore, protect and enhance the Rouge River watershed through stewardship, education and collaboration.
The Rouge River is more than 50 percent urbanized and is inhabited by 1.35 million people and several companies. Carmeuse shares the 467 square mile waterway with the residents and companies of southeast Michigan.
“As a company that shares the waterways of Rouge River, Carmeuse has always been committed to supporting efforts to protect and enhance the watershed,” said Matthew Gower, SOM River Rouge, on Carmeuse’s sponsorship of the cruise.
Sponsorships from Carmeuse and other local companies will help Friends of the Rouge keep trails and grounds in good condition and clear brush and invasive plants, in an effort to keep the watershed pristine.
