The Organization is supported by funding from Michigan citizens and businesses. Fundraising is an integral part of Area 1 Special Olympics. Money raised is used to pay for the sports practices, registration fees, transportation, lodging, food, equipment and tournament trips.
Each year the Carmeuse Port Inland team has a cookout with games and activities for employees. This year’s event featured a Dunk the Manager fundraiser. Employees donated to the Area 1 Special Olympics Michigan by purchasing ball throws in an attempt to raise money for the funding of the organization while having some fun and dunking Carmeuse managers in a water tank. The tank was donated by Desjardens Excavating.
Port Inland Site Operations Manager Mike Cirino presented a donation to Area 1 Special Olympics representatives David and Sheila Marks.
“Our employees were happy to help with fundraising for such a great local cause. The Area 1 Special Olympics Michigan is an organization that we want to continue to support,” said Shena Meffer of Carmeuse Port Inland.
