Huron puts on its running shoes again for the start of the Huron 5K Series
This year’s Huron 5K Series kicked-off in traditional style at the Huron River Fest with the Huron River Fest 5K and Fun Run. As in past years, the series of races is sponsored by the Carmeuse Huron Operation, which provides bottled water and snacks for race participants and volunteers. Huron 5K Series organizer, Bill Scott, thanked the company for its continued generosity in supporting the community.
The 2023 season consists of six races, one more than in 2022. Alongside the traditional series opener at the Huron River Fest and regular fixtures, the Abbey Rose Foundation 5K Trail Run, Saint Peter School Spooktacular 5K, and Judi Lively Memorial Turkey Dash, the calendar also includes two new fixtures for this year: the Beulah Beach 5K and the Huron PTO 5K race.
“We’re pleased to be continuing our sponsorship for the 2023 Huron 5K Series in support of community causes,” said Huron Site Coordinator, Christine Mollison.
The Huron River Fest 5K and Fun Run took place on July 8 in aid of Huron High School’s Cross Country and Track Teams, as well as Young Life of Erie County. Brett Reed finished first in the men’s race in a time of 16:49, while Lucy Watson topped the women’s rankings in a time of 20:25. Carmeuse’s own Christine Mollison was also among the competitors, completing her race in a time of 52:18.
