Huron runners take their mark and go in two 5K races supported by Carmeuse

Carmeuse Huron never misses an opportunity to support local runners. The plant continues its sponsorship of the Huron 5K Series, with the latest races, the PTO 5K Glow Run, taking place on September 16th September and the Huron High School Cross Country Invitational that brought almost 250 middle and high school students to the Firelands Campus of Bowling Green State University.

The PTO 5K Glow Run began at Woodlands Elementary School, before heading to Huron High School and back again. It was followed by a fun run and glow party in the school gymnasium with glow rings, glasses, and necklaces lighting up the night. A BBQ and shaved ice truck completed the festivities. The Huron Operation provided post-race treats and bottled water for participants, volunteers, and their families.

Joel Duffield, 23, led the men’s race home in a time of 17:30.44, with Heather Grieves, 37, bringing home the women in 21:27.75. A total of 62 runners took part in the 5K, including Huron’s Site Coordinator, Christine Mollison. Funds raised by the event will go toward the Huron PTO’s mission to support teachers, both inside and outside of the classroom, with supplementary educational materials and experiences.

Regular Huron 5K Series participant, Lisa F., shared her appreciation for Carmeuse’s ongoing support with Mollison, thanking the company for the snacks and water. Huron PTO officers Suzanne Kudrin, Vice President, and Missy Rinehart, Media Secretary, also expressed gratitude for the donations provided by Carmeuse Huron.

The Huron 5K Series now moves on to the Halloween-themed St Peter Spooktacular 5K and Kids Pumpkin fun run on October 28th.

Following the PTO Glow Run, the Huron High School Cross Country Invitational took place on October 7th. The day experienced perfect weather being sunny and cool. The Huron girls' team took 4th place, and the boys took 7th place in the 5K. Huron's McCormick Middle School took first in both events for the two-mile run.

Bill Scott, coordinator of the Huron High School Cross Country Invitational thanked the Carmeuse Huron team for their support.
