James River’s John Loan rides 1000 miles for The American Legion

John Loan, Production Supervisor at the Carmeuse, James River Operation, VA, recently joined 360 fellow American Legion riders on The American Legion Legacy Run 2023. Held between August 20th and 24th, riders trek more than 1000 miles through eight states to raise money for The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund, that provides scholarships to children of fallen and disabled U.S. military personnel.

The five-day ride begins at American Legion Post 6 in Kokomo, Indiana, travelling through Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee, before ending at the Hendrick Motorsports campus in Concord, North Carolina. By the last day of this year’s event, the total raised stood at $667,340.71, topping last year’s total by $60,000. Over its 16-year history, the Legion Riders have made more than $15 million for the scholarship fund.

“We salute John and his fellow riders for their endurance over such a long and arduous ride,” said Terri Aikens—Human Resources at James River. “The money they have raised will go along way to changing the lives of young people impacted by conflict for the better.”
