Longview presents annual Carmeuse Foundation check to BBBS of Shelby County

Carmeuse Longview Operation, Alabama, recently presented its annual Carmeuse Foundation check to local community partner, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Shelby County. The check continues Longview’s long-standing support of the organization.

Since 1977, BBBS of Shelby County has been empowering youth—or Littles—to achieve their full potential through one-to-one relationships with caring adults—or Bigs. These mentoring relationships are carefully built and supported by the organization’s professional staff to ensure matches are safe and well-suited to the Little’s needs, and so to igniting the power and promise of youth.

Thanks to the support of Carmeuse Longview, BBBS of Shelby County already provides mentors to about 200 local Littles. They have also announced they are expanding their geographical reach to include neighboring Chilton County, already beginning the matching process in one Chilton County school.

“We strongly believe that children respond to positive interactions and benefit from strong communities,” said Sybil Owens of Carmeuse Longview. “Through our long-lasting relationship with BBBS, we are privileged to support their amazing work and make a real difference to the lives of hundreds of Littles in our local areas.”

The Carmeuse Foundation provides financial and volunteering support to agencies like BBBS, who provide underprivileged and at-risk children with education and training, social, and personal development opportunities.
