Maysville and Black River employees volunteer in Ohio River clean-up
Employees of the Carmeuse Maysville and Black River sites recently volunteered with environmental charity, Living Land & Waters (LL&W), to help clean up a section of the Ohio River that runs past Augusta, Kentucky. The clean-up effort took place on September 15th—the day before National CleanUp Day, which aims to bring together individuals and organizations to encourage a cleaner outdoors.
LL&W have been cleaning-up American rivers for over 25 years. Since its founding in 1998 by Chad Pregracke, it has grown to become to only industrial strength river clean-up organization in the world, removing over 13 million pounds of garbage from US waterways and their watersheds. The LL&W team also work to expand awareness of environmental issues, spending up to nine months of every year living and travelling on their clean-up barge, which was built for the purpose by Carmeuse subsidiary, Yager Marine.
