Bring your s’mores: Carmeuse Grand River donates bricks for new fire pit

The Merrick Hutchinson Memorial Park in Grand River Village, OH, is home to a brand-new fire pit, thanks to a donation of kiln brick by the Carmeuse Grand River Operation.

The fire pit was the brainchild of Council President, Jennifer Hood, who reached out to Carmeuse for the brick – and then built the pit with another volunteer when the brick arrived at the park. Dwayne Knee, Bob Hay, and Brian Horvath of Carmeuse worked together to get the bricks where they needed to be.

“The latest addition to our park is a fire pit to chill out by or to warm you up, depends on the weather,” Grand River Village posted on its Facebook page. “Thank you to the guys at Carmeuse for donating the fire brick.”

The bricks were donated at the end of the July and the fire pit was ready by mid-August. Although last we heard, the park was still working on seating. As the Facebook post added: “Bring your chairs and wood and s’mores!”

Carmeuse has been partnered with Grand River Village since 2017, helping with the park project, as well as donating a couple of trees in memory of Grand River employees.
