Carmeuse Blind River supports low-income families to get ready to go back to school

Preparing to go back to school can be a stressful–and expensive–time. But in Elliot Lake, ON, things are now a little easier for some lower-income families, thanks to a donation from employees at the Carmeuse Blind River Operation to the local food bank’s back-to-school drive. The gift was made to mark National Food Bank Day on 3 September.

Among the items donated to the Elliot Lake Food Bank were back packs, lunch boxes, paper, stationery and lunch box snacks. The employees’ contribution was also matched by the company to bring the total donated to between $600-$700. 

“There is a large percentage of lower income families in the area that need the support when children get ready to go back to school. The generosity of Carmeuse and the employees at Blind River have tried to make it a little easier this year,” said Blind River Plant Generalist, Jennifer Vierkotten, who organized the donation. 

Carmeuse Operations regularly support local education initiatives and students at local schools. The recent donation from Carmeuse Blind River follows in the footsteps of a similar gift to local schools by Carmeuse Annville, PA, made last month.
