Carmeuse Calcite welcomes armed forces personnel for annual training event
Train hard, fight easy—it’s an old military maxim. But no less true for that.
It’s with this is mind the Carmeuse Calcite Operation in Michigan opens its doors annually to personnel from the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, (ACRTC), for annual combat training sessions. Use of the Carmeuse facilities is offered for free and offers a valuably realistic stage on which to conduct the training.
Some 900 acres are placed at the disposal of the ACRTC for the Northern Strike exercise, which combines forces on land and air, as well as a maritime element on Lake Huron. Some 8,000 people will take part in this year’s event, which will take place August 6-20.
“We are thrilled to be a part of Northern Strike. It is great to think that we can benefit our troops in any way,” said John Abbitt, Area Operations Manager at the Calcite Operation, who recently received a plaque from ACRTC Commander, Col. James M. Rossi, commemorating the plant’s hospitality.
