Carmeuse Dundas sponsors school backpack program
With a record number of new family registrations at the Flamborough Food Bank, more children than ever need the community’s help to get back to school with the right tools. Making sure of this is the goal of the food bank’s School Backpack Program.
The program aims to provide a new backpack and school supplies to the children of the food bank families. It is completely self-funded and relies on sponsors like the Carmeuse Dundas Operation.
“We started donating school supplies last year with geometry sets, scientific and regular calculators, and light-up yo-yos. This year we donated backpacks and reusable beverage bottles. All of the supplies are set out on tables, and the kids are allowed to pick what they need and like,” said Sylvia Alvarez of Carmeuse Dundas.
In total, the Dundas Operation donated $1000 worth of supplies to the backpack program. “I feel very fortunate to work for a company that gives back to the community. It is very gratifying to know that so many people benefit from it,” concluded Alvarez.
