Carmeuse Huron supports BGSU Firelands Falcon Fund 5K Run
The Huron 5K Series continued in September with the BGSU Firelands Falcon Fund Run, fundraising for scholarships to the Huron-based Firelands campus of Bowling Green State University (BGSU). The Carmeuse Huron Operation, OH, again provided water and snacks for participants as part of its sponsorship of the five-race series.
Forty runners, aged from four to 68, completed this year’s event, which took runners from the Firelands campus through the neighboring McBride Arboretum. Among those was Christine Mollison, Site Coordinator at the Carmeuse Huron Operation and BGSU alumna.
“It was a beautiful evening for the race with a great group of people,” said Mollison, who was taking part in her second 5K of the season, after running the Abbey Rose Foundation Trail Run in August.
Special shout-outs go to a couple of ten year-olds who headed the race rankings. Mason Leber completed the course in 22:02 to finish as the top male competitor, while Laney Schlessman wasn’t far behind as the top female athlete, crossing the line in 23:20.
The Huron 5K Series now moves on to the St Peter School Spooktacular 5K & Kids Pumpkin Fun Run on (no surprises for guessing) 30 October. This annual Halloween-themed race starts at the school, before taking runners through downtown Huron and the surrounding Oklahoma neighborhood. Money raised goes to benefit the school.
