Carmeuse Longview supports health and wellness for all

Cleaning your teeth. Washing your hair. Safely storing your medicines. These are things that most of us take for granted. But for the homeless and for those in developing countries, these are often unaffordable or inaccessible luxuries. Employees at Carmeuse Longview Operation, Alabama, recently supported two organizations that aim to change this. 

“During the week of our Wellness Clinic, we collected toiletries to donate to Hands and Feet of Jesus, a local charity that works with the homeless. We also collected empty medicine bottles to send to Matthew 25 Ministries, who accept cleaned and empty prescription and over-the-counter bottles to send as medical supplies to developing countries.” said Sybil Owens, of Human Resources at Longview.  

Nearly 800 toiletry items were collected ranging from deodorant, to toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, feminine hygiene products and more. In total, three large boxes of items were donated to Hands and Feet of Jesus.

The Longview effort was recognized by Hands and Feet Jesus in a Facebook post: “We are so grateful for the donation drive Carmeuse Longview did for our 4th Saturday Serve,” the organization said in a post. 

In addition, 50 medicine bottles were donated to Matthew 25 Ministries. 

“I have a hard time throwing away perfectly good pill bottles, so finding an organization that can use those bottles makes me happy! Even those that do not meet the required standards are recycled to generated revenue for the organization—so nothing is wasted. We hope to send more bottles in future,” Sybil added.
