Carmeuse Port Inland donates time and materials to repair popular local boardwalk

Carmeuse Port Inland donates time and materials to repair popular local boardwalk

Running along the Lake Michigan shore in the town of Manistique, MI, the Manistique Boardwalk is a popular destination for locals and tourists in the area. The 1.83-mile route offers a fishing pier, picnic grounds and access to the distinctive red East Breakwater Light. However, high water levels had left parts eroded with boards in need of replacement.

Stepping into the breach, a crew of nine employees from the nearby Carmeuse Port Inland Operation spent the morning of July 8th working to repair the boardwalk. The crew replaced boards, while the Port Inland facility also donated pathway mix that will be used to reconstruct parts of the boardwalk that have been washed away.

Thanks to generosity of Port Inland employees, visitors will be able to enjoy the boardwalk in safety – taking in the abundant wildlife and natural beauty of the area, as they watch the ships go by.
