Carmeuse Port Inland supports local student welding champions
Two Manistique High School welding students showcased their craft at the local SkillsUSA Competition held at Bay College, Escanaba, MI, in February 2022. Tyler Powell and Mason Hurley took first place and will now go on to compete in the state-wide competition in Lansing in the spring.
Proud to support this next generation of skilled workers on their road to Lansing, the Carmeuse Port Inland Operation—which is located about 20 miles east of the town of Manistique—donated funds to help cover travel expenses.
SkillsUSA is a national organization that serves high school and college students enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled and service occupations. Its local, state and national competitions allow students to demonstrate their skills. During the competition, students are graded and receive feedback from college faculty, high school instructors and local business representatives who are active in their field.
However, the skills on show are not mere competition exhibitions. They offer students a real pathway to high-wage, high-demand jobs and are the foundation for future economic growth and development.
