Carmeuse River Rouge volunteers keep Tot Lot clean and safe

A neighborhood Tot Lot Park is cleaner and tidier thanks to the work of a dozen volunteers from the Carmeuse River Rouge Operation in Michigan. The annual clean-up event happened on June 17 at the Division Street Tot Lot Park, one of two parks the company helps maintain, as part of the Clean Up the Park Day for the City of River Rouge.

In addition to the time given by the volunteers, Carmeuse also donated brand new mulch to cover the whole area of the Tot Lot. Due to COVID-19, it had been a while since the park had received any attention – and it had got pretty overgrown in places. Volunteers spent the day working hard to dig out the weeds and lay the new, safer playing surface.

The clean-up is undertaken in communication with the City of River Rouge Mayor’s Office and helps provide a safe and clean play area for the city’s children. It is one of a number of ways in which the River Rouge operation is involved in its community, having also recently equipped volunteers for the Rouge Rescue 2021 river clean-up campaign with new tools, thanks to a $1,500 donation from the plant.

The Carmeuse volunteers cleaning-up the Tot Lot were Reza Eizadkhah, Jacob Baith, Matt Gowen, Chad Wright, Alex Pogasic, Christy Burt, Rita Simpson, Robert Kuntzman, Karl Goreta, Jeremy Luellen, Randy Balding, and Doug Owens.
