East Chicago elementary students return to school in style
As kids, (and their parents), look forward to the start of school again after the summer vacation, the Carmeuse Buffington Operation, Indiana, has donated 40 fully-equipped backpacks to the Boys & Girls Club in East Chicago. The donation was made as part of the club’s Back-to-School Backpack and School Supply Drive.
“We recognize that preparing kids to return to school can stretch family budgets. We are pleased to play a part in relieving some of that pressure, and help ensure our local elementary schoolkids begin the year with all the tools they need,” said Dominic Jenkins, interim Site Operations Manager at Buffington.
Each backpack is filled with the necessities needed for school and provides a solid foundation for success in the coming year. “The kids were so excited to receive them. We hope they have a wonderful year of smiles,” added Jessica Jenkins, Buffington Plant Generalist, who coordinated the donation.
The Buffington Operation’s action reflects Carmeuse’s wider support of agencies who provide educational, training, and mentoring opportunities to underprivileged children. The company regularly supports a range of organizations involved in this mission, including a number of Boys & Girls Clubs local to its operations.
