Hot dogs and hauling trash mark the start of spring at Carmeuse Winchester
The spring-cleaning season kicked off with hot dogs and hauling trash at the Carmeuse Winchester Operation, Virginia. Along 4.5 miles of public roads surrounding the site, 30 volunteers from the plant picked litter as part of the biannual Adopt-a-Highway program. In total, 49 bags were collected and disposed of, along with other various unbagged waste items.
“We perform these clean-ups twice per year or more as needed,” said Logan Thompson, Site Operations Manager at Carmeuse Winchester. “This year we also hosted a hot dog cookout for employees and haulers at our scale house. It was a great way to kick off the spring season.”
Each volunteer gave 1.5 hours of their time to the effort, which is sponsored by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Through the VDOT Adopt-a-Highway program, each year more than 23,000 volunteers collect more than 44,000 bags of trash along the state’s public road network.
