Huron 5K Series kicks off 2022 season with race against human trafficking

The Huron 5K race series kicked-off the season on June 25th with the a new race event, the Liberating Hope 5K.  This new race raised money to support two local Ohio charities, The SOAP Project and Out of Darkness, in their fight against human trafficking.

The Carmeuse Huron Operation once again lined up as a main sponsor of the series, providing water and snacks for the races.

“We thank Carmeuse for their generous support of the races,” said Bill Scott of the Huron 5K Series. 

Carmeuse also provided three participants for the first race. Christine Mollison, Huron Site Coordinator, was joined by two of her grandchildren, Maggie (3) and William (1), to finish in 1:08 – not bad considering Christine was pushing Maggie and William around in a double stroller. Maggie and William enjoyed it so much, they are looking forward to the next race.

Winner’s spots went to Max Davis (16) in 17:48 on the men’s side, and Riley Towns (13) in 23:07 on the women’s. 

The series now moves on to the Huron River Fest 5K and Fun Run on July 9th to raise funds for Huron High School track and cross-country teams, and Young Life of Erie County. The Abbey Rose Foundation 5K Trail Run follows in August, before the season completes with the holiday-themed Saint Peters Spooktacular 5K in October, and Judi Lively Memorial Annual Turkey Dash in November.
