Forgotten Cemeteries
Update: Boyd Family Cemetery

In the November 13, 2019 publication of The Fincastle Herald there was an article printed about “Forgotten Cemeteries” that talked about the Boyd Family Cemetery that is located across from our main office,” said Clay Coleman, site operations manager for Carmeuse in Buchanan. “Everything in the  article was true and at the end it stated that the cemetery needs some ‘loving care.’

“I’m not sure who really owns this plot of land. If you go online to Botetourt GIS it says the owner is the Boyd Cemetery, it gives Buchanan, Va. as the address,” Coleman said. “The signs read that the first pastor of Buchanan Baptist Church is buried there. I asked several of the older members of Buchanan Baptist and they said the church did not own it.

“Since we cannot pin down an owner of the cemetery, Carmeuse will take on the ownership of being the caretaker to the cemetery going forward so it will not get in the run down condition anymore,” Coleman said.

The Botetourt Genealogy Club, is grateful for this news, and is proud to be able to report that this historic cemetery has found a caretaker. The club can be reached at doreatr [at] yahoo.com.
