Port Inland Donated Materials and Helped to Restore Local Environmental Lab
On August 21, Carmeuse’s Port Inland operation donated a substantial amount of building materials and pathway mix to the Manistique Township Environmental Lab. In addition to material donations, Carmeuse employees also repaired and restored the lab’s boardwalk and scenic overlook. Improvements included replacing unstable rotting boards, adding additional boardwalk supports, clearing overgrown vegetation and replacing the overlook railing.
The Environmental Lab features nearly 2.25 miles of winding nature trails complete with informational signs identifying local wildlife. Local community members use the trails for walking, hiking, snowshoeing, biking and school field trips.
Port Inland employees Kevin Miller, Shena Meffer, Doug Troyer, Bill Oglesby, Mike Braeger, Eric Sundling, Tim Frankovich, Dana Neadow, Gary Kaiser, Mike Cirino, Jared Leckson, Ben Armock, Zack Weber and Tim Zellner participated in the restoration.
“We are thankful for this opportunity to give back to our community, especially during the current pandemic,” the employees collectively expressed. “In a small town such as ours finding things to do during this time can be difficult. Places like the environmental lab offer community members an opportunity to explore while staying active and safe."
