Port Inland Employees Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity
On August 27, Carmeuse’s Port Inland operation volunteered during Habitat for Humanity Hiawathaland’s Local Build Days. Port Inland employees participated in projects including moving furniture, gardening, and sheeting and shingling the new roof of the organization’s garage, which stores building supplies for home projects.
Habitat for Humanity Hiawathaland is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing every person with a decent place to live and eliminating poverty housing by building and remodeling homes in the community.
Each year, the organization invites volunteers to participate in Local Build Days. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, volunteers were not permitted to enter homes for renovations. Instead, the Carmeuse team participated by helping to finish the roof of the Habitat for Humanity storage garage along with other improvements to the property.
Speaking on behalf of the team at Port Inland, Shena Meffer expressed, “Working with Habitat for Humanity was such a fun, rewarding experience for us. We are looking forward to participating in future Habitat for Humanity events”.
