River Rouge Honors Veterans Through Wreaths Across America

River Rouge Honors Veterans Through Wreaths Across America

On Veterans Day, Carmeuse’s River Rouge operation paid tribute to those who have served our country by donating wreaths through the Wreaths Across America organization. The site sponsored wreaths in remembrance of fallen soldiers and also participated in the Give and Get a Wreath Program, gifting wreaths to River Rouge veterans Doug Owens, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Jerry Balding, who served in the U.S. Air Force.

Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 2,100 locations across the country at sea and abroad. The organization’s mission is “To remember our fallen U.S. veterans, honor those who serve and teach our children the value of freedom.”

The wreaths are designed intentionally to represent 10 special qualities that embody those who have served in the military: faith, love, strength, honesty, humility, ambition, optimism, concern, pride, and hopes and dreams. The red bow seen atop each wreath signifies great sacrifice, while the evergreen signifies longevity and endurance.

“We thank all of our troops for standing their ground, trusting their leaders, keeping us safe and preserving our freedom,” said Donna Degree-Gordon of River Rouge.
