Winchester Contributes to Museum of the Shenandoah Valley Trails Project
Carmeuse’s Winchester operation has partnered with the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley (MSV) to contribute to the Trails Project, which will create 90 acres of the largest green space in the city of Winchester with more than three miles of trails.
In December 2019, 15 employees kicked off Carmeuse’s involvement by volunteering time to spread mulch on many sections of the Rustic Trail. In addition to volunteering, the site committed a donation of approximately 3,600 tons of stone, valued at over $60,000, for the construction of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant paved trails.
Incremental stone deliveries began in August and will continue until the project is complete. Carroll Construction, a local company, will be surfacing the trails using Carmeuse’s donated stone. In recognition of the site’s contributions to the Trails Project, the Meadow Trail section of the park will be marked with signage reading, “The Meadow Trail given by Carmeuse Americas – Virginia Operations.”
When complete, the Trails Project will offer the Winchester community a beautifully maintained setting for walking, running and biking through fields, woods and wetlands.
“This project touches so many things we’re passionate about – Community, Sustainability, and Wellness to name a few,” said Logan Thompson, Winchester SOM. “We reached out to the MSV wanting to be a part of it and they have been fantastic to work with. We’re excited to use these trails and excited that some of our products could help make the trails a reality.”
