As part of the partnership between the Carmeuse Foundation and Junior Achievement, Carmeuse recently participated in 3 events in Indiana (USA).
Belinda Speer, Plant Generalist at our Portage location, represented Carmeuse at the Career Fair at Portage High School, where 100 students met companies and discussed their future paths. “It’s a great opportunity to leave an impression on just one student. Kids do not have enough role models in today’s world, so through Junior Achievement they may find their future path. I love being a part of someone’s future and opening their eyes to a potential career with Carmeuse!"
In Gary Westside Leadership Academy and in Morton High school, 8 volunteers had open discussions with the students, who thus got a better understanding of various professions (environmental specialist, quality manager, maintenance planner, process engineer, HR manager, etc). The HR manager, Amy Reinders, gave them an overview of the degrees and skilled trades in demand in today's market and the importance of continuous learning to progress in their careers.
Raymond W Rummel, Environmental Manager within Carmeuse, said of his experience at the Career Speak event held at Morton High School: “It was an incredible opportunity to share how students can turn their passion into a career. I was astounded by the questions and engagement the students showed.”
Congratulations to all volunteers!
