We communicated, at the end of last year, our major project in partnership with Engie and John Cockerill - the Columbus project.
Our Group Research & Development Director, Jean-Yves Tilquin, has recently been invited to talk about closing the CO2 loop and how we are heading towards a new CO2 industry in Wallonia.
We will have to live with carbon, whether for mineral chemistry or the chemistry of polymers. On the other hand, we must talk about defossilization of carbon.
It is a question of eliminating as much as possible the fossil source of this carbon and for the rest, to loop the carbon in a circular CO2 economy or capture it.Jean-Yves Tilquin
"E-methane, e-gas," that is to say, the transformation of the CO2 generated during the lime production process into renewable gas, which can then be injected into the network, or else be used in transport or industry. And Jean-Yves Tilquin's hope is of course that Wallonia does not stop there: "The technologies are mature, at least in terms of use (with a view to the circular carbon economy) and sequestration and they simply require scaling up, as quickly as possible. And the recovery plan will help catalyze the development of concrete projects around this theme".
